Aurora

Aurora was inspired by the sunrises I kept seeing each morning, when the sky shifts from deep shadow into warm colour. Those tones of coral, peach, rose and gold became the starting point for this betta fish painting.

Set against a black background, the fish curves through the composition while its sweeping fins unfold in layered ribbons of colour. The movement of the fins echoes the slow spread of light across the sky at dawn, with warm hues flowing outward through the darkness.

The contrast between the darker, scaled body and the luminous fins creates a sense of depth and motion, allowing the colour to carry the composition. In this original oil painting, the flowing forms of the betta fish mirror the gradual shift of sunrise itself — colour moving through darkness in a continuous, fluid rhythm.
