Valentine’s Day is often associated with flowers, chocolates, and fleeting gestures — beautiful in the moment, but temporary by nature. Yet the gifts that tend to mean the most are the ones that stay. The ones that quietly become part of everyday life, carrying memory, emotion, and story with them.

For me, art has always felt like one of the most honest ways to express emotion. It holds presence. It carries energy. It communicates without needing words. Whether it exists as an original painting, a fine art print, or a silk piece developed from one of my wildlife works, each format allows the artwork to live beyond the studio in its own way.

When Art Becomes Part of Someone’s World

There’s something deeply personal about gifting art. An original painting, like Crimson Currents becomes part of a home. A print finds its place in a favourite corner or workspace. A silk scarf moves with someone through daily life. Each form offers a different relationship with the same artwork — one static, one framed, one in motion.

What connects them all is longevity. Art doesn’t expire. It evolves. It gathers meaning through the spaces it occupies and the people who live with it.

Wearable Art and Movement

Seeing paintings leave the studio and enter the world in wearable form (Josie's Editions) has been one of the most unexpected and rewarding parts of my practice. Silk allows artwork to shift, flow, and interact with the body. As seen here with Crimson Currents, the silk twill catches the light as it moves, enhancing colour depth and allowing the artwork to feel alive in motion rather than static on the wall. Colours move differently. Details appear and disappear depending on light and motion.

It creates a completely different experience of the same work — one that’s tactile, personal, and constantly changing.

Choosing Something That Lasts

Valentine’s doesn’t have to be about grand gestures. Sometimes it’s simply about choosing something that carries intention, beauty, and presence — and letting it live quietly in everyday life.

For those drawn to silk this season, code LOVE20 is available as part of my Valentine’s offering at Josie's Editions.
